=============================================================================
When: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12:20pm in R521.
Who: Anyone is welcome.
What: One brings one paper, while 10 others bring 10 other papers.
Then we all learn about 10 papers. --- "買一送十" spirit.
How: Please vote at https://www.benty-fields.com/. We will talk about highly voted papers.
One example format is a few of us present a 10min, one figure summary of a paper, followed by discussion with all.
Feel free to bring your lunch/drink.
If you notice any interesting paper this week, please bring them. Let's discuss.
Volunteers for presenting papers, and maintaining website are welcome. Please contact Tomo.

Suggestions for students taking this as a class.
-If you have to miss the class, please email Tomo and TA a day in advance.
-Please subscribe and try to vote at https://www.benty-fields.com/ at least one paper every day.
-Please post a link to the paper you present on FB one day in advance. I also encourage to post it to facebook once you pick a paper, so people have more time to read.
-If you know someone who has been to a conference/observations, please encourage him/her to share the experience at astroph.
-If you need help in picking, or reading a paper, please feel free to ask me for help.
Some tips in summarizing a paper. Please try to read these.
-What is the goal of this research? Why are they doing?
-What is new/original in this paper?
-How does this compare with previous work?
I suggest to post astro-ph papers, to our FB, https://www.facebook.com/groups/243912932481301/

Title:Core-collapse supernovae: Explosion, neutron stars, black holes, and gravitational waves
Time: 9/12, Wednesday, 1:30 PM
Place: Physics 019
Abstract:
Supernovae are the spectacular birth places of neutron stars
and stellar-mass black holes in the universe. In this talk, I will
talk about the current challenges in supernova numerical modeling
and the microphysics inside. In particular, I will focus on the supernova
explosion mechanism, the formation of neutron stars and stellar-mass
black holes, and multi-messenger signals from core-collapse supernovae.

A Quasar Discovered at redshift 6.6 from Pan-STARRS1
Luminous high-redshift quasars can be used to probe of the
intergalactic medium (IGM) in the early universe because their UV
light is absorbed by the neutral hydrogen along the line of sight.
They help us to measure the neutral hydrogen fraction of the high-z
universe, shedding light on the end of reionization epoch. In this
paper, we present a discovery of a new quasar (PSO J006.1240+39.2219)
at redshift z = 6.61 +- 0.02 from Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid
Response System 1. Including this quasar, there are nine quasars above
z > 6.5 up to date. The estimated continuum brightness is M1450= 25.96
+- 0.08. PSO J006.1240+39.2219 has a strong Ly alpha emission compared
with typical low-redshift quasars, but the measured near-zone region
size is RNZ = 3.2 +- 1.1 proper megaparsecs, which is consistent with
other quasars at z~6.
